Stomach Banding May Cure Type 2 Diabetes

Obese patients with type 2 diabetes who had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery were far more successful in controlling -- even reversing -- the disease than their counterparts who dieted and received standard medical therapies, researchers who compared the two groups have found. Nearly three-quarters of the patients who received stomach-banding surgery for weight loss cured their diabetes, according to results published in the
Journal of the American Medical Association.
