Open jars of peanut butter turned over to health authorities by people who had become ill tested positive for the presence of Salmonella, according to the US Centers for Disease Control.

All Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter produced at the ConAgra Foods facility in Sylvester, Ga., has been recalled. The Salmonella outbreak has reportedly caused at least 329 people to become sick.

A Pennsylvania family claims in a lawsuit that one of its members died as a result of eating contaminated peanut butter, but that death has not been confirmed.

A CDC spokesman said that the testing has identified the presence of Salmonella in peanut butter in New York, Oklahoma and Iowa.
