FDA Oks Merck's Januvia for Type 2 Diabetes

Merck's diabetes drug Januvia (sitagliptin phosphate), a once a day tablet, has received the approval of the US
Food and Drug Administration.
Januvia helps people manage Type 2 diabetes, which is the most common form of the disease. Over 20 million Americans are Type 2 diabetics.
The new medicine is said to have fewer adverse effects than treatments already available and does not cause weight gain. It can be used alone or in tandem with other diabetes drugs, according to the FDA.
At about $5 per day, its cost is comparable to other medications on the market. |
