Indonesia's Bird Flu Death Toll Climbs to 55

Three recent deaths in Indonesia have been confirmed as cases of infection by the H5N1 avian influenza virus, according to the
World Health Organization.
The latest fatality was a 67-year-old woman who died eight days after being hospitalized in West Java Province. She reportedly had purchased live chickens at a market prior to becoming ill.
There have been two other confirmed bird flu deaths in the past week: An 11-year-old boy from South Jakarta died on Oct. 14, and a 27-year-old woman died on Oct. 13.
The total number of H5N1 bird flu cases confirmed in Indonesia is now 72. |
