Two Canadians and one American have become paralyzed after drinking carrot juice contaminated with botulism. Although the products involved were recalled on Sept. 30, some stores didn't get the message, and tainted products may still be available for sale.
Carrot juice tainted with botulism was recalled throughout North America on Sept. 30, but investigators continued to find potentially toxic products on some store shelves in Toronto as recently as Sunday.
Ten of 506 locations inspected were still offering recalled juice products for sale, associate medical officer of health Dr. Elizabeth Rea reportedly told the Toronto Star.
At least two people in Canada and one in the US became paralyzed after drinking the contaminated juice, and several more have been hospitalized.
Health officials are warning consumers to throw away any of the following juice products with a "best before" date prior to Nov. 11: Bolthouse Farms 100 percent Carrot Juice, Earthbound Farm Organic Carrot Juice and President's Choice Organics 100 percent Pure Carrot Juice. |
