It's safe to eat fresh spinach again, the US
Food and Drug Administration advised late Friday.
An alert that was issued two weeks ago in connection with an outbreak of E. Coli now applies only to bagged raw spinach and salad products that were recalled earlier this month by California grower Natural Selection Foods and four companies that used its spinach in their products.
The spinach currently available in stores is as safe as before the outbreak, according to health officials.
The current outbreak started in mid-August and eventually spread to 26 states. One Wisconsin woman died, and two other fatalities are still under investigation. At least 97 people were hospitalized after becoming ill from eating tainted spinach. |
