These measures include closing off the spots to prevent people and livestock from coming in contact with the wild birds, inoculating fowls in the province and taking general investigations, said officials with the provincial animal epidemic control headquarters.

The three million doses of avian flu vaccine provided by the provincial government have been sent to every corner of the province and the vaccination work will be finished before 30 May.

Last Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture said the national bird flu reference laboratory confirmed that the deaths of migratory birds found in Gangcha County on May 4 were caused by the deadly H5N1 virus.

A survey of 2.18 million fowls shows that as of Monday, the disease has not been found to spread to human beings and fowls, said the headquarters.

Sources from the ministry said earlier that some migratory birds had been killed by the virus migrated from Southeast Asia.

According to the national bird flu reference laboratory, different from that spreading in China, the bird flu virus detected in Southeast Asia is more deadly and possibly contains a gene for human contraction.
