The rate of decline in deaths due to cancer is accelerating in the U.S. -- a hopeful sign of progress in fighting the disease. From 2002 through 2004, cancer deaths overall fell by 2.1 percent each year. That was almost twice the annual decline during the period from 1993 to 2002. There have been substantial reductions in deaths attributed to lung, prostate, colorectal and breast cancers.
