Silicone Breast Implants to Return to Canadian Market

Mentor Medical Systems have been granted conditional licenses to market silicone breast implants, according to
Health Canada. The devices were withdrawn from the market 14 years ago, suspected of causing everything from joint pain to cancer.
After reviewing thousands of pages of documents, including comprehensive studies from the US and the UK, Health Canada said it had reached the conclusion there was no basis for the worry that silicone implants might cause autoimmune or other systemic diseases.
Now, the silicone gel-filled implants will once again be freely available to Canadian women. However, Health Canada is also cautioning that "no medical device is 100 percent safe." |
