E. coli has been found in cow manure at a California ranch just a mile from the Salinas Valley spinach fields linked to the outbreak that killed three people and sickened nearly 200 across the United States.

Samples from the cattle ranch match the strain found in bags of contaminated spinach.

No cause and effect between the cow manure and the tainted spinach has been established, but health officials intend to further investigate.
