New legislation may create a regulatory body to oversee the practice of traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture in Ontario.
Ontario government officials say they plan to introduce legislation this year to regulate traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

Health Minister George Smitherman released a report Friday recommending Ontario create a regulatory college for traditional Chinese medicine, or TCM; allow only qualified healthcare professionals to practice acupuncture, and establish different classes of practitioners based on education and experience.

Ontario would join British Columbia as the only Canadian provinces to regulate TCM and acupuncture. Two other provinces, Alberta and Quebec, regulate acupuncture.
